Car Wars: Do they really make them like they used to?
We’ll always remember our young years as the golden times of our life… Life was just simpler then.
A staple from this time will always be the cars, that we drove.
Running the risk of sounding old, but they just don’t make them like this anymore!
When you compare the old to the new, do they get better with age?
Or are the new cars driving the old ones off the road?
Eurofit Autocentres has paired 4 Classic Hot Hatchbacks from their younger years against their newer counterparts to find out!
Seat Ibiza GTI (1993) VS Seat Ibiza (2020)
The Seat Ibiza first came onto the UK scene in the early 90’s.
Seat was known as Volkswagens sportier Spanish brother. The Mk2 Ibiza was based on the Volkswagen Golf, rather than the smaller Polo.
First came the 1.8 litre 8-valve from the Golf, followed by a 16-valve version the next year. In 1996 the GTI got a 2.0-litre engine from the elite Mk3 Volkswagen Golf GTI.
It’s safe to say that the newer versions of the Seat Ibiza are a more refined version of its older brother.
It handles like a dream, doesn’t run the most economically... but it sure is fun to drive!
Volkswagen Polo G40 (1987) VS Volkswagen Polo (2020)
The Volkswagen Polo G40 was a lot of fun! The G in its name is represented by the twin spiral chambers which resembled the letter.
Whilst this car was fun to drive and fast, it came with its flaws!
From sticky and imprecise gear changes to the fuzzy throttle response.
The new Volkswagen Polo is a much more reliable and smooth drive.
With a fine-tuned suspension and gearbox, this car is now a modern masterpiece!
Fiat Strada Abarth 130TC (1985) VS Fiat Abarth (2020)
The Strada Abarth was one of the fastest hot hatchbacks of its time!
In its day Strada Abarth was the fasted and most entertaining hot hatchback you could buy! Unfortunately, it was also the most fragile.
The Strada Abarth 130TC included a five-speed gearbox, ventilated front brake discs, uprated suspension and low-profile tyres.
The Fiat Abarth is the more powerful version of the famous city car, the Fiat 500.
The newer Abarth gets a lower suspension, bigger brakes giving a firm ride to balance out the power and speed from this punchy little powerhouse!
Mitsubishi Colt Turbo (1984) VS Mitsubishi Colt (2020)
In its golden days, the Mitsubishi Colt Turbo was good enough to rival even the almighty Fiat Strada Abarth 130TC.
With its brilliant performance, sharp handling and stylish interior.
The Mitsubishi Colt Turbo was a performance-based car, rather than a hatchback with some bite.
In the newer version of this car, the performance stays true to its ancestor. This car gets better with age!
Whether it's old or new, Eurofit Autocentres can repair it!
